On October 12, the presidential palace of Madagascar issued a written statement condemning the country's ongoing "illegal attempt to seize power by force". In a statement, the Presidential Office of Malaysia severely condemned this destabilizing attempt, saying it "violates the country's constitution and democratic principles." The presidential palace emphasized that the current situation was "extremely serious" and reiterated that "dialogue is the only way and way out to resolve the current crisis." Since 25 September, large-scale demonstrations have erupted in several cities, including the capital of Madagascar, Tananarivo, in protest of frequent water shortages. Violence in shops, residential houses,, robbery and firing has resulted in casualties and property losses. On 11 October, a military camp in southern Tananarivo was shaken, and some soldiers joined the demonstration and demanded President Rajolina to resign.
