According to the Associated Press reported on October 12, Afghanistan said on the 12th that 58 Pakistan soldiers were killed during overnight border operations, in response to what it said was multiple violations by Pakistan of its territory and airspace.
Earlier this week, Afghan authorities accused Pakistan of bombing the capital Kabul and a market in the eastern part of the country.
Chief Taliban government spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said Afghan forces seized 25 Pakistan military posts, killing 58 soldiers and wounding 30 others.
According to the German news agency, Pakistan closed its border with Afghanistan on October 12.
A security official said the Dolham border crossing in northwest Khyber Pakhtunh province and the Jaman border crossing in southwestern Baluchistan province had been closed.
Local media broadcast videos and quoted security sources as saying that Pakistan has captured at least 19 Afghan border posts, with multiple casualties on the Afghan side.
Security sources said Pakistan used heavy artillery, tanks, fighter jets and drones, but both sides claimed they had caused heavy losses to the other.
There is no official indication that the fighting that began at night has ended.
