U.S. officials say they will not deploy ground troops to Gaza

U.S. Central Command Commander Brad Cooper said on October 11 that the United States will not deploy ground troops to the Palestinian Gaza Strip.

Cooper wrote on social media that day that he had "just returned from Gaza" and that the U.S. plans to set up a "coordination center" consisting of military and non-military personnel, led by the U.S. military Central Command, to support "conflict-after-stabilization operations."

"There will be no U.S. forces in Gaza," Cooper wrote in bold.

Israel announced in the early morning of the 10th that it had approved the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement signed with the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). The Israel Defense Forces said that the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement took effect at 12:00 local time on the 10th.

The White House’s previously announced “20-point plan” includes the future deployment of a temporary “international stability force” in the Gaza Strip, which will be overseen by an international transitional agency for post-war transitional governance.

However, Hamas is resistant to international supervision and deployment of peacekeeping forces. Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (Jihad) and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) issued a joint statement on the evening of the 10th, saying that they firmly rejected any "foreign regulatory agency" taking over the Gaza Strip.
