Late at night on October 11 local time, a fierce exchange of fire broke out on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. According to security services of the two countries, Afghan Taliban forces attacked several Pakistan border posts. The conflict occurred after the Pakistan Air Force launched a large-scale air strike on four cities in Afghanistan, including Kabul, in the early morning of the 10th.
Afghan Defense Ministry spokesman Enayatullah Khowarazmi said at a later press conference that the attack was in retaliation for Pakistan's "violation of Afghan airspace." He said that the attack will end after midnight on the 11th local time.
In a statement, Khovalazmi said: “If the opponent again violates Afghan airspace, our armed forces are ready and will respond vigorously.”
In addition, the Afghan Ministry of Defense also issued a similar statement on the X platform, reiterating that the attack was a retaliatory action against Pakistan's "violation of Afghan airspace."
In terms of conflict statements, according to Reuters, the Afghan side claimed that its troops had seized three Pakistani border posts, while the Pakistani side claimed that its troops had destroyed many posts on the Afghan side and launched a "comprehensive counterattack" against "unprovoked fire" from the Afghan side. Reuters quoted Pakistani security officials as saying that the exchange of fire took place in more than six locations along the border.
According to previous reports, in the early morning of October 10 local time, the Pakistan Air Force launched large-scale air strikes on four major cities in Afghanistan. JF-17 "Xiaolong" fighter jets, F-16 fighter jets and pterosaur armed drones jointly attacked and destroyed many Pakistan Taliban (TTP) armed positions.
The cause of the operation was the recent massive casualties of the Pakistani army in the TTP attack, which killed about 16 Pakistani soldiers in the fighting in the county of Kuram in the province of Cape on October 8.
Pakistani Defence Minister Havajah Aliyev issued a strong warning to the National Assembly: “Pakistan’s patience is exhausted and the militants in the camp have to pay the price.”
