Breaking-News >> WorldNews In the case of 28.8 million vehicles, the U.S. will launch an investigation into Tesla cars equipped with "completely autonomous driving" systems.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently said it would investigate 28,8 million Tesla cars equipped with "completely autonomous driving" systems after receiving more than 50 traffic safety violations and accidents reports. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tesla's "fully autonomous driving" system caused "violations of traffic safety regulations" in cars, including running red lights and changing lanes retrograde. The Authority is currently reviewing 58 related reports, including 14 accidents that resulted in 23 injuries. There have been reports of six accidents showing that Tesla vehicles using the "fully autonomous driving" system pulled into intersections at red lights and collided with other vehicles. Another car owner complained that the "fully autonomous driving" system failed to accurately identify traffic lights or did not completely stop the car at a red light, but Tesla "did not solve the problem or even admit that there was a problem." Tesla has no response, but updated its software this week. According to Reuters, the current investigation is only a preliminary assessment, and once the authority determines that the vehicle has an "unreasonable safety risk", it may require a recall. The authority will also review the performance of "fully autonomous driving" systems near railroad crossings. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conducted a similar investigation in October 2024 on about 2.4 million Tesla cars equipped with "completely autonomous driving" systems, arguing that the cars had four collisions in low-visibility conditions. According to Tesla, the "completely autonomous driving" system can under the supervision of the driver, intelligently and accurately complete driving operations, including route navigation, turning, shift path, parking, etc., but the functionality currently enabled still needs to be artificially monitored.
