Trump's supervision failed, the Israeli army ignored the ceasefire and bombed violently, causing serious casualties, and more than 200 US troops appeared

As soon as the ceasefire agreement was signed, bombs fell. As soon as Trump blew the "clarion call" for diplomatic victory, Israeli warplanes blew up the sky over Gaza as if no agreement had been signed.

As soon as more than 200 American soldiers landed, the conflict broke out again before they could put on a supervisory posture. Before the peace agreement could be heated, it was coldly cut in half by reality

Monitoring failure

The ceasefire was originally a high-profile appearance by Trump who pronounced himself the “King of Middle East mediation” and promised to “personally oversee” and even once on social media to portray himself as a “peacemaker.”

However, a few hours after the ceasefire agreement was signed, southern Gaza was completely blown up by Israeli warplanes. According to the Palestinian News Agency, on the evening of October 9, the Israeli Air Force carried out an air strike in the Sabra district of Gaza City, killing at least four people and missing. More than 40 people. The incident occurred at an impartial time, less than half a day after the agreement was signed.

Ironically, this is not a mistake, the Israeli broadcaster said very clearly: the operation was approved by the army commander and belonged to "upper-level decisions", which means that the ceasefire agreement is not binding in the eyes of Israel at all, and what Trump calls "supervision" clearly doesn't work for the Israeli military at all.

Trump's "personal supervision" mainly focuses on the hostage issue. He keeps an eye on the release of Hamas, but pays almost no attention to Israel's military actions. This selective attention makes the image of a "Middle East coordinator" he originally wanted to rely on this ceasefire to establish, which is particularly embarrassing.

In fact, history has long reminded us that it is not the first time that Israel has done this, and in January and March this year, there have been similar cases of "sign up and fight."

Hamas negotiating representative Haia pointed out that Israel is usually looking for reasons after signing the agreement "the time it has chosen to resume the war", which is no longer an "accident", but a pattern.

This also exposes the old problem of the United States in the Middle East: when the interests of allies conflict with the diplomatic results it hopes to achieve, the United States often neither wants to lose influence nor can it truly restrain the behavior of its allies. This ceasefire agreement is a typical example. The epitome of the embarrassment of "American mediation", which sounds good but powerless.

Symbolism is greater than substance

In order to add a "credibility" to the ceasefire agreement, the United States this time really moved a little "military horse", almost 200 U.S. troops were sent to the Middle East, forming the so-called "supervisory small division", which sounds like preparing for action, but when you look closely, this team is more like a "diplomatic board".

These U.S. troops are tasked with overseeing a ceasefire, but the question is who they can oversee, Hamas itself is in trouble, and the willingness to implement the agreement is stronger, but Israel, they can’t afford.

The Israeli Foreign Minister stated directly: The withdrawal of troops is not unconditional. Hamas must disarm first before there can be talks. This is equivalent to saying in advance,"I can start fighting at any time." Whether you supervise or not has nothing to do with me.

What’s more, Israel doesn’t welcome these “supervisors” at all, and supervisors from Egypt, Turkey, Qatar and other countries are on the list, but Israel has no patience with those countries at all.

In particular, the attitude toward Qatar and Turkey can almost be described as “rejection of contact”, in this context, the so-called multinational surveillance mechanism, destined to be “you play yours, I beat me.”

What can those 200 U.S. troops do? To put it bluntly, it is more like a political statement: We are here, we care, but if we really want them to stop the Israeli tanks, can we stop them?

I am afraid that the answer is obvious, they have neither authority nor real power, mostly “spectators” and even “convincing” qualifications, which also reflects the old bugs of the international supervisory mechanism: temporary collusion, lack of coercion.

You can't just rely on the "sense of existence" to maintain peace, and you can't expect the "symbolic deployment" to change the logic of war, supervision, the premise that both sides are willing to be supervised, the current pattern, is the strong side does not accept supervision, and the weak side is passive cooperation, what does supervision mean?

Issues outside the agreement

It seems to be a ceasefire issue, the reality is that the old problem has not been solved, the so-called "20-point plan" pushed by Trump this time, many of the contents sound very beautiful, such as economic reconstruction, humanitarian aid, infrastructure construction, but the biggest problem has been bypassed by him, can Palestine actually establish a state, Israel does not want to end the occupation?

This is the root of the conflict, with Israel hoping to completely disarm Hamas, “de-militarize” Gaza, and even want to turn Gaza into a “half-closed administrative zone.”

The most basic demand of the Palestinians is to establish a country that truly belongs to them on their own land, in two directions, in the opposite direction.

As long as this pair of contradictions still exists, the agreement will be like a fortress on the beach, which will be scattered when the wind blows. Not to mention 200 US troops, even 2000 people will not be able to stop the repeated outbreaks of fundamental problems.

In fact, looking back at history, from the Oslo Agreement to the "two-country plan", the international community has long said it, but the reality is: talk more, do less; speak loud, fall empty.

As long as Israel does not give up its control of Gaza, as long as the political rights of Palestinians are long suppressed, do not expect a real peace in exchange for a few temporary ceasefire.

And this so-called "Trump supervision", more like a public relations operation, while speaking is a "diplomatic victory", while looking at the agreement turned into waste paper, this play is not noble, and no one really buys the bill.

Now Gaza, still in the shadow of bombing, although the entry of humanitarian supplies brings a little breath, but the door of peace has not really opened, Trump’s “supervision” has not worked, the Israeli bombs have not taken their hands, the multinational supervision mechanisms have not stood still, and the situation has exploded.

The key to the problem is never whether there is no agreement, but whether there is no will to solve the problem, the ceasefire is only a superficial article, does not touch the core contradiction, is blurred peace, this Israeli air strike, not only broke the ceasefire, but also broke the confidence in any "short-term arrangement".

The arrival of more than 200 US troops cannot determine the fate of Gaza. What can really change the situation is whether the international community has the courage to promote a just political solution; It is whether the parties to the conflict, especially the one with the decision-making power, are willing to put down old scores and start a real peaceful dialogue.

The reality is cruel. Peace will not come automatically. The future of Gaza does not depend on how many times the agreement is signed, but on whether anyone really puts the dignity and rights of Palestinians on the table. As long as this issue is avoided, the war will It will not really end.
