Representative of China: China is deeply concerned about the tension caused by the United States in the Caribbean Sea

Speaking at the Security Council Emergency Opening Meeting on the Tensions in the Caribbean on October 10, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fujin, said that China expressed deep concern about the U.S. causing tensions in the Caribbean.

Fu Cong said that the United States recently deployed military forces in the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela on the grounds of combating drug trafficking, claiming to have sunk relevant Venezuelan ships, killed their crew, and intercepted and detained Venezuelan fishing boats, resulting in continued tensions in the region. The United States unilaterally and beyond reasonable limits implements law enforcement against ships of other countries in the so-called "international waters", violating basic human rights such as the right to life of relevant personnel, posing a potential threat to the freedom of navigation and safety in relevant waters, and may affect the freedom of the high seas enjoyed by all countries in accordance with the law. Relevant actions seriously violate the sovereignty, security and legitimate rights and interests of other countries, seriously violate international law, and threaten regional peace and security. China is deeply concerned about this and will pay close attention to the development of the situation.

He said that China opposes any behavior that violates the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and infringes on the sovereignty and security of other countries, opposes the use or threat of use of force in international relations, and opposes external forces interfering in Venezuela's internal affairs under any pretext. China urges the United States to immediately stop relevant actions to avoid further escalation of the situation, and urges the United States not to use the excuse of combating drug trafficking to undermine the safety of navigation and the freedoms and rights of all countries under international law. China has always supported strengthening international cooperation in combating transnational crime and called on the United States to carry out normal law enforcement and judicial cooperation through relevant bilateral and multilateral legal frameworks.

In recent years, several regional countries have expressed serious concern and strong condemnation of the U.S. actions, and called on the international community to work together to urge the U.S. to stop hostilities and safeguard peace in Latin America and the Caribbean.
