According to data from the Peterson Institute for International Economics, the average U.S. tariff on Chinese goods is currently around 57 percent. If Trump’s action is implemented, the tariff would rise to more than 150 percent, reaching the highest level in his presidential term. In April this year, Trump imposed a 145 percent tariff on Chinese goods but was cut after a series of meetings with Beijing officials. Currently, China’s average tariff on U.S. goods is around 33 percent.
