Leaders of many countries positively evaluate the SCO's obtaining CIS observer status

Xinhua News Agency, Dushanbe, October 10 (Reporter Jiang Youlin, Jiang Hexuan) The meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on the 10th. The meeting decided to establish the "CIS +" mechanism and grant the CIS observer status to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia supports the deepening of ties between the CIS and the SCO and makes full use of the potential of cooperation between the two organizations, which is beneficial to safeguarding the security and sustainable development of our countries and the entire Eurasian region.

President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan believes that the decision to adopt the "CIS +" initiative and grant the SCO observer status of CIS is very important and an important step to expand international exchanges of CIS.

Kazakhstan President Tokayev said that the decision to grant the SCO observer status for the Commonwealth of Independent States will "open a new page in the history of cooperation between Eurasian regional organizations." He said that establishing the "CIS +" cooperation model will strengthen the CIS's role on the international stage.

President Lukashenko said that the CIS needs to strengthen cooperation with like-minded countries and organizations to advance the agreed international agenda and grant the status of observer to the CIS "in the common interest".

The Commonwealth of Independent States was established in December 1991, and its current member countries include Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. The Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States is the highest body of the organization.
