Putin holds press conference on CIS, Russian-US relations, aircraft crash

On October 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a press conference to summarize the results of his recent visit to Tajikistan.

Putin said that the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) should not lose its superiority in many fields, which was formed in the Soviet era, including in the humanities.

Responding to the question of whether or not the “potential reached by the Anchorage meeting has been exhausted,” Putin said that the two heads of state reached a basic consensus in Alaska on resolving the crisis in Ukraine and agreed to return home and consider relevant solutions, which is still present.

Putin said that if the United States provides Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, Russia will strengthen its air defense system to respond. Putin said that Russia has mastered a new type of weapon and will demonstrate to the outside world in the near future that the current test results of this weapon are good.

Putin said there is still time to prepare on whether to extend the new Treaty on Strategic Weapons Reduction, which he said would be acceptable and beneficial to extend with the United States, otherwise there would be no restrictions in the field of strategic weapons.

Regarding Russia-Azerbaijan relations, Putin said Russia-Azerbaijan national relations have not experienced a crisis, but due to the tragic events of the aircraft crash, the two countries have developed a "crisis sentiment."At present, the investigation into the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines aircraft is almost over.

From October 8th to 10th, Putin paid a state visit to Tajikistan and attended the 2nd Central Asia-Russia Summit and the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of CIS. (Headquarters reporter Zhang Yuyao Wang Bin)
