Recently, a China-Thailand-U.S. exchange meeting on the extraordinary maritime drug smuggling case of the "Jisheng Ship" was held in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. Delegations from the Narcotics Control Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security of China, the Anti-Narcotics Bureau of the Royal Thai Police, and the Drug Enforcement Administration of the U.S. Department of Justice attended the meeting. During the meeting, the three parties reported on their respective work status on the detection of the "Jisheng Ship" case, exchanged opinions and suggestions, and clarified the direction of the next work. The three parties agreed to further strengthen cooperation and dig deep into the crackdown on behind-the-scenes drug trafficking gang networks.
It is reported that in the early morning of February 24, 2025, China's anti-drug and coast guard departments carried out law enforcement operations 130 nautical miles southwest of Huangyan Island in the South China Sea based on clues reported by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and successfully seized the drug ship "Jisheng" and arrested the criminal suspect. There were 7 people, and 4,973.4 kilograms of methamphetamine were seized on the spot.
The case recorded the highest amount of drugs seized at sea in the Asia-Pacific region in recent years, a major achievement achieved by China-Taiwan tripartite drug enforcement cooperation.In this case, the Royal Police of Thailand and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency joined in-depth investigation, actively informed the Chinese side of the maritime drug trafficking clues, the Chinese side responded quickly, successfully intercepted drug ships and seized drugs, and set a model for international drug enforcement cooperation.
At present, the global drug problem is intensifying, transnational drug crimes are rampant, and public well-being is seriously threatened. The Chinese person in charge expressed his willingness to further strengthen information exchange and cooperation with relevant national drug law enforcement departments on the basis of equal cooperation and mutual respect, crack down on transnational drug crimes according to law, jointly promote in-depth anti-drug cooperation, and jointly deal with the global drug problem.
