Nobel Prize winner in Literature is a fan of Li Bai and asked the whole family to use chopsticks

KrasnohorkaiLaszloThe final answer to the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, a normal and unexpected outcome.

This is because the Hungarian writer has enough strength and scores. He has won almost all the major Hungarian literature awards, and in 2015 he also won the Booker International Award, one of the most brilliant names in the European and world literature. Long before the awards were announced, he was already a popular gambling company forecast, once ranked second in the odds list.

To say that it is accidental is related to its work. Although suzanne sontag, a famous cultural critic, once happily compared laszlo with Gogol and Melville in the 19th century, calling it "the most philosophical novelist in contemporary times", it is precisely because of the so-called "philosophy" that his works are not so easy to read, so despite his fame, they still appear remote and niche at the reader level.

Labyrinth and Difficulty

Laszlo's work is difficult, even professional readers are not to be "fearful". translator Zeman, who is engaged in Hungarian literature translation, has mentioned that he first translated Laszlo's novel, only about 9000 words in volume would be enough for a month.

In the case of the story alone, Russell's work may not be so complicated. The story of "Satan Tango" can be summarized as a scam story: a defeated village isolated from the world, day after day bathed in the rain and mud, two "saviors" coming from the city claim to lead the villagers out of death into a new world, but only to crush their money, so that after a fierce struggle, everyone returned to the village. Another well-known long episode "The Sorrow of the Resistance" was similar: a circus from the distance brought a series of bizarre features to the city, and also brought a riot, and the riot was finally settled, everything changed, and nothing changed.

Russell’s “Satanic Tango”

But the key is that all stories are not told in a common and smooth way, but instead present a dull, dull appearance. This is primarily due to the high walls of the language, Russell used long sentences, often the entire page does not see a sentence, a section, and also often the syntax is vague, rhetoric complex, a glance is asphyxiating.

This was, of course, Laszlo's intention. He said that his idol isKafkaFor him, creation is an experiment, an attempt and effort to expand the boundaries of literature, and he does not want to write anything like other works. and he wants to break the temptation of the story, by increasing the difficulty of reading to force the reader to focus more, so as to approach the real thinking under the surface narrative.

In fact, Laszlo's thoughts behind literature are not mysterious and even somewhat familiar, especially the bitter humor and cold absurdity in them are exactly the same as those of Herbal, Herta Miller and even Milan Kundera., Ivan Krima and others. They both belong to the vein of Eastern European literature in the 20th century and have all experienced a special history. In their writing, literature naturally points to suspicion and introspection.

Specifically, what Laszlo wants to express is always a revelation of a certain desperate dilemma. As he himself said, all of his works are versions 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 of "Satan Tango", which is nothing more than about "from one trap to another" and "from one destruction to another." There is no doubt that such a cruel cognition comes from a heavy reality. It is not only a painful collective experience, but also a profound individual memory.

Pessimism and Fascination

This memory of desperate predicament did not only originate in Laszlo from one moment and one place. In 1987, he won a prize from the German Cultural Exchange Foundation for Satan's Tango, so he moved to Berlin, where he witnessed another great change and experienced an even greater disillusionment.

In this regard, he once recalled this way: "Before the fall of the Berlin Wall, we had a fantasy that there was an absolutely rational, free and wonderful world. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, we saw the free world in our dreams, but it was realistic, bitter and did not provide fantasy." The disillusionment obviously also affected literature. Before that, his writing had a clear direction, but when the former object had disappeared, everything seemed invalid, and even who he wrote for became a question mark.

So since then, Laszlo's literary maze has become more complex, because what he has to deal with is no longer specific satire and criticism, but universal and eternal dilemmas. In his view, despair is the basic living condition of mankind, and all history is a tragic comedy. In the constant cycle of laughter and tears, all meaning is eliminated.

This pessimism continues in his vision of the future. At the beginning of this year, Russell just published a short article on the backdrop of a recent war, telling the story of two dying men in the battlefield. When he talked about the origins of creation, he made it clear that it was a more thorough madness, mankind killing each other like the old age, while believing that technological progress would bring a beautiful new world.

However, occasionally, Laszlo also has moments of calmness and tenderness in his works, such as when writing "The Prisoner of Ulaanbaatar" and "The Descent of the Queen Mother of the West", such as when writing "North Mountain, South Lake, West Road, East River" and "Ruins and Sadness Under the Sky". Without exception, several works are all related to the East and China.

In the summer of 1998, Laszlo was in China

For China, Laszlo has a special emotion. He first stepped on this distant land in 1990 and gave rise to a deep fascination, not only calling it "the only human museum in the world", but also asking the whole family to change chopsticks to eat. Laszlo especially liked Tang Dai's poet Li Wei, liked his luxury, his discipline, liked his endless energy, wandering heart. In May 1998, Laszlo followed the footsteps of Li Wei once walked, walked around Tainan, Song Feng, Luan, Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing and ten cities, and did a lot of interviews along the way, there were poets, scholars, Taoists, monks, there were tourists, people. No matter who encountered, the topic was always separate from Li Wei.

Compared with his familiarity with China, China's understanding of him is much more limited. It was not until 2017 that his works were released in Chinese, and only two long and two short collections have been published so far. But now with the blessing of the Nobel Prize, it will not be long before his words enter more of the China market, and more people will enter his maze to meet him.
