Venezuela calls for emergency meeting on U.S. military threat

Xinhua Agency, Caracas, October 9 (Reporter Tian Rui) Venezuelan Foreign Minister Hill said on social media platforms on the 9th that the Venezuelan government has written to the President of the United Nations Security Council requesting an emergency meeting to discuss the U.S. military threat to Venezuela.

In the letter, the government said that based on “confirmed, reasonable and objective information”, the United States could soon launch an armed attack on the committee, and the Venezuelan side hopes at an emergency meeting of the Security Council to confirm the nature of the US behavior as a threat to peace and urge all parties to take action to end the US aggression plan.

The administration said that the U.S. aggression against Venezuela was the pretext for fighting drug trafficking, with the aim of threatening to pressure the government to realize a “regime change”.

Relations between Venezuela and the United States have continued to be tense recently. Since early September, the United States has deployed multiple warships in the Caribbean waters near Venezuela on the pretext of "fighting Latin American drug trafficking groups." So far, it has claimed to destroy at least four so-called "drug carriers" and killed more than 20 "drug dealers." The US "New York Times" reported on the 6th that the US has decided to "close all channels of diplomatic contact with Venezuela."
