Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova said in Moscow that if the U.S. provided Ukraine with "war-ax" cruise missiles, it would exacerbate the confrontation and irreparably damage Russian-US relations.
During a routine press conference that day, Zakharova said the problem was that Ukraine could not use the missile without the direct involvement of the U.S. military and that once the U.S. government made a decision to supply the missile, “it would not only trigger an escalation of the confrontation, but would also cause irreversible damage to the Russian-U.S. relations that have begun to resume bilateral dialogue.”
Zakharova said that Russia is paying close attention to the development of the situation and urged all parties to exercise extreme restraint when dealing with this highly sensitive issue. "We hope Washington can hear these warnings".
U.S. Vice President Vance told the media at the end of September that the White House is considering providing Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range that can cover Moscow, the Russian capital, through NATO's European member states. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 2 that if the United States provides Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, the situation will escalate substantially.
US President Trump said at the White House on the 6th that he had made "some decision" on whether to provide Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
