German exports to the United States declined for five consecutive months

The data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics of Germany on October 9 showed that Germany's exports to the United States declined by 2.5% in August, for the fifth consecutive month.

Data showed that compared with the same period last year, Germany's exports to the United States fell 20.1% in August to 10.9 billion euros, the lowest level since November 2021.

Dirk Jandula, president of the German Wholesale and Foreign Trade Association, said on Monday that Germany's foreign trade situation remained severe and had been stagnant for months in a row, saying that despite the growth in German exports to China in August, it was difficult to fully offset the negative impact of the decline in German exports to the United States during the tariff crisis on German foreign trade.

The Federal Bureau of Statistics data also showed that after seasonal and working day adjustments, Germany’s exports fell by 0.5% in August; in other major export markets, Germany’s exports to China grew by 5.4%.

The United States is Germany's major export market, and the automotive and parts industry is Germany's main source of surplus to the United States. As U.S. tariffs on goods such as imported cars have been in place since April, German exports to the United States have continued to decline.
