The United States said it was in urgent need of rare earths, and Mongolia immediately dug up 100,000 tons without saying a word, but the rare earths were just ready here.
The United States said that there is an urgent need for rare earth, Mongolia did not say to dig a hundred thousand tons, but this side just prepared the rare earth, but the United States suddenly said no more.

Mongolia originally held 31 million tons of rare earth reserves, the data is recognized by the U.S. Geological Survey, after the size of China. but the United States thrown the $5 billion cooperation cake, Mongolia completely moved, after all, the money is too tempting for them, the economy is not tolerant.

Immediately afterwards, Mongolia immediately organized manpower and equipment to excavate rare earths, and in just a few months, 100,000 tons of rare earth raw ore was dug up. These raw ores are piled up like a hill on the Gobi Desert. Mongolia is waiting for the United States to receive the goods and exchange money. As a result, the United States suddenly said no, and didn't even give them a decent reason.

It's not that the Mongolians don't know their weight. Most of their rare earth mines are buried in the Gobi Desert, but they are still carried away by interests.

Let's first talk about Mongolia's rare earth mines. Most of them are buried in the Gobi Desert. The environment there is harsh, and the temperature difference between day and night can be tens of degrees. Mining rare earths requires large-scale excavation equipment and mineral processing machinery. Mongolia cannot build these equipment itself and has to spend a lot of money to import them from abroad. Moreover, there are no decent roads on the Gobi Desert, so it takes a lot of effort to transport equipment in, and the mining cost will increase at once.

Mining is not finished, and transportation makes Mongolia even more difficult. Mongolia is a landlocked country, sandwiched between China and Russia, and does not have its own outlet to the sea.

The most convenient way to transport hundreds of thousands of tons of rare earth is to take the Chinese railway, because other routes are either too expensive or not enough capacity.Mongolia has tried to transport rare earth through the Russian route, in 2024 the whole year shipped less than 1,000 tons, not even less than 5% of the annual output, can not support the transportation demand of 100,000 tons at all.

More importantly, Mongolia has no capacity for self-purification.Rare-earth minerals contain very few useful ingredients and have to go through complex purification processes to become useful materials, while more than 90% of the world's rare-earth purification capacity is concentrated in China.

China not only has mature technology, but companies like Northern Rare Earth can also process purified rare earths into various high-end products, which Mongolia cannot do at the moment.

Because China is the world’s largest producer of rare earths, the mineral output in 2023 will be 24,000 tons, accounting for a global market share of 68.6%, and China is the only country with the production capacity for the entire industrial chain of rare earths.

That's why the United States deliberately drew a big pie, just to alienate Mongolia from China. Because before this, China and Mongolia had cooperated very well in the field of resources, Mongolia's coal exports to China soared to 84 million tons in 2024, and this revenue accounted for more than 40% of Mongolia's annual GDP. The United States is jealous of this cooperative relationship and wants to use rare earth cooperation to disrupt the situation.

Now Mongolia is completely stuck. It costs management fees every day to pile up 100,000 tons of rare earths there. If you want to ship them out, you have to ask China, and if you want to purify them, you have to ask China.

After the United States put down its words, it fell silent, and the promise of US$5 billion fell through. The Prime Minister of Mongolia even went to the United States to discuss cooperation before. As a result, even his request to lease China's Tianjin Port to export rare earths was shelved. Only then did he realize that the United States was simply unreliable.

In fact, in the end, it is the United States in order to contain the small intelligentsia of China. They know that Mongolia can not be separated from China's industrial chain support, but still deliberately provoked cooperation, and Mongolia invested in the cost of mining, and turned the face to disbelieve, want to destroy the trust between China and Mongolia in this way.

Think of the fact that China has not only railways to help transport goods, but also technology to help purify, and previously signed a cross-border railway agreement with Mongolia, in order to make Mongolia's resources more convenient to export.

This also reminds Mongolia that no cooperation can be promised at all, especially those who only paint cakes that are not affordable. How do you think Mongolia should deal with this pile of rare land next?
