Egyptian media says Gaza ceasefire agreement comes into force, Israel says cabinet meeting still needs approval

Xinhua Agency, Cairo/Jerusalem, October 9 (Reporter Yao Bing and Feng Guorui) According to Egypt's Cairo News TV reported on the 9th, the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement has officially come into effect. The Israeli government stated in this regard that the entry into force of the agreement still needs to be approved by a cabinet meeting.

Egyptian President Sisi wrote on social media on the 9th:"The world is witnessing a historic moment that demonstrates that the will of peace has overcome the logic of war." He said the agreement not only ended the war, but also opened doors of hope for people in the region.

According to a report by the Israel Times on the same day, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office said that the Gaza ceasefire agreement will take effect after formal approval by the cabinet meeting on the evening of the 9th local time.

At present, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel are holding a new round of Gaza ceasefire negotiations in Egypt’s Sham Sheikh.
