Russia warns U.S. that providing Ukraine with "Tax" missiles will damage bilateral relations

Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, October 8 (Reporter Luan Hai, Zhao Bing) Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova said in Moscow on the 8th that if the United States provides Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, it will intensify confrontation and irreparably damage Russia-US relations.

During a routine press conference that day, Zakharova said the problem was that Ukraine could not use the missile without the direct involvement of the U.S. military and that once the U.S. government made a decision to supply the missile, “it would not only trigger an escalation of the confrontation, but would also cause irreversible damage to the Russian-U.S. relations that have begun to resume bilateral dialogue.”

Zakharova said that Russia is paying close attention to the development of the situation and urged all parties to exercise extreme restraint when dealing with this highly sensitive issue. "We hope Washington can hear these warnings".

U.S. Vice President Wences told the media at the end of September that the White House was considering providing Ukraine with "Tax" cruise missiles through NATO European member states that can cover the Russian capital Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 2 that if the United States provided "Tax" missiles to Ukraine, the situation would be substantially escalated. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that it was whether to provide "Tax" missiles to Ukraine that "some decision" had been made.
