On October 6, after the Consulate General of China in Kota Kinabalu received a notification that two China tourists had lost contact on Mermaid Island in Sabah, Consul General Zhu Xinglong attached great importance to it and immediately launched a consular protection emergency plan, contacted the Sabah police and requested that search and rescue work be carried out as soon as possible, the families of the missing persons should be informed of the relevant situation, and the search progress should be closely tracked.

On the 8th, Consul General Zhu Xinglong personally went to Guda Maolu County, where the incident happened, to meet with police chief Sharudin Hussein and the head of the search and rescue team. After listening to Director Shaludin's joint search work by the police, maritime law enforcement agencies and fire rescue bureau in the past few days, Consul General Zhu said that the safety of Chinese citizens Yu Xiaopeng and Fan Qin affected people's hearts and attracted many concerns. He urged the police to further intensify the three-dimensional search in the sea and air, race against time, and find the lost Chinese tourists as soon as possible without letting go of any clues and places. Consul General Zhu also stressed that the police should find out the cause of the accident as soon as possible, enforce the law fairly, and protect the legitimate rights and interests and life safety of Chinese citizens.
