Guterres urges all parties to fully comply with Gaza ceasefire

Xinhua Agency, United Nations, October 8 (Reporter Pan Yunzhao) United Nations Secretary-General Guterres issued a statement on the 8th, welcoming the agreement reached by relevant parties on a ceasefire and release of detained persons in the Gaza Strip, and urging all parties concerned to fully abide by the terms of the agreement.

Guterres said that all detainees must be released in a dignified manner, a permanent ceasefire must be achieved, fighting must stop completely, and immediate and unimpeded access to the Gaza Strip must be ensured for humanitarian aid and basic commercial supplies. The United Nations will support the full implementation of the agreement and will increase its efforts to provide sustained and principled humanitarian assistance to advance the recovery and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

Guterres urged all stakeholders to seize this important opportunity to establish a “reliable political path” to “end the occupation”, recognize the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, and ultimately implement the “two-state plan” that will allow Israelis and Palestinians to live peacefully and safely.
