EU agencies: Global experiences the third warmest September since recorded

Xinhua News Agency, Brussels, October 9 (Reporter Ding Yinghua, Zhang Xinwen) The Copernicus Climate Change Service, a climate monitoring agency of the European Union, released a report on the 9th, saying that the world had just experienced the third hottest September since the agency began to record in 1940.

The report shows that the global average surface temperature in September was 16.11 degrees Celsius, lower than the average global surface temperature in the same month in 2023 and 2024, respectively 0.27 degrees Celsius and 0.07 degrees Celsius, but still higher than the pre-industrial average (from 1850 to 1900) 1.47 degrees Celsius.

In September this year, the average global ocean surface temperature was 20.72 degrees Celsius, the third highest since recorded in the same month; the sea surface temperature in most waters of the North Pacific is significantly higher than the average level of the same period, some waters recorded a new record high; the Arctic sea ice span is 12% lower than the average level of the same period, and the Antarctic sea ice span is 5% lower than the average level of the same period.

Samantha Burgess, head of climate strategy at the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting, said that the global temperature in September 2025 was the third highest on record, only less than 0.1 degrees Celsius lower than in September 2024. "One year later, the global temperature situation has remained almost unchanged, and land and ocean surface temperatures remain high, reflecting the impact of the continued accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere."
