Live broadcast, October 9. According to a report in the "Asz" newspaper, Lille striker Pardo may play for the Belgian national team. He has repeatedly declined the call up of Spain's U21.
Pardo was born in Brussels, Belgium, to a Spanish father. He played for Belgium's youth national teams at all levels in the youth training stage, but later expressed his willingness to play for Spain. Since then, Spain has made three attempts to call him up for the youth national team, but he has avoided playing for Spain every time so as not to lose his qualification to play for Belgium. Belgium promised Pardo a clear sports plan from the 2026 World Cup, while Spain only regards him as an international candidate for the youth team at present.
Spain's national team sports director Campanio is in communication with Pardo and his family. But Pardo said he regretted that the Spanish Football Association had not sent anyone to France in person to interview him. In a similar case in Yamal, the Spanish Football Association responded quickly and sent then-technical secretary Francis Hernandez to Barcelona to personally meet with Yamal and his father in the restaurant, and successfully persuaded him to commit to representing the Spanish national team.
But Pardo has not yet received such treatment. He may, like Ashraf or Diaz, eventually choose to fight for another qualified country, which in his case would be Belgium.
