Suspect in attempted assassination of Argentine vice president sentenced

On August 8, a court in Argentina announced that the man who attempted to assassinate Vice President Cristina in 2022 was sentenced to a total of about 14 years in prison for attempted murder. On the same day, the court sentenced Monterrey to 10 years in prison for attempted murder. Earlier this year, Monterrey was sentenced to four years and three months in prison for illegally holding and spreading child abuse images. In addition, the court also sentenced his ex-girlfriend Uriat to eight years in prison and another suspect in the case to be released.

On September 1, 2022, when Christina was receiving supporters at her home in Buenos Aires, Montiel in the crowd suddenly took out a pistol and pointed it at Christina's head, pulled the trigger, but the pistol did not fire. He was subsequently taken into custody and later confessed to trying to assassinate Christina.

Cristina was President of Argentina from 2007 to 2015 and was the first female elected President in the history of Argentina.
