Four days after being elected chairman of the People's Party, China has always failed to comment on his election, but only responded to the internal affairs of Japan, hoping that Japan will abide by the principles and consensus of the four political documents of China and Japan.
It is widely believed that Takaichi Sanae will take a tough stance against China, but her attitude has made a 180-degree U-turn and made compromises on the most sensitive issues of Sino-Japanese relations. During the election campaign, she also said that she would continue to visit the Yasukuni Shrine, but now she has changed her mind.
The political thinking of Gao Xiaobo was deeply influenced by Abe, and was regarded as the "woman version of Abe", a representative of the right-wing conservatives within the self-government party. She often made some hard-knit remarks, such as advocating the modification of the Japanese constitution, the Japanese Self-Defense Force to be changed to the "National Defense Army".
In particular, she has a very tough attitude towards China and is regarded as a hawk towards China. This is mainly manifested in three aspects.
First, the historical issue. She denied Japan’s invasion of China, and thought it was inappropriate to admit Japan’s aggression to Asia and express reflection and apology about the “talk of the village.”
In particular, she ignored the opposition of neighboring countries, insisted on worshiping the Yogyakarta sanctuary, which she has visited almost every year for more than a decade.
We have a close relationship with Taiwan, long-term support for deepening Japanese "non-official" relations, see Taiwan as an important partner of Japan, and are also seen by the Taiwan regional authorities as an important friend.
She has visited Taiwan province several times and made incitement speeches, such as advocating Abe's "Taiwan has something to do with Japan", as well as US Hudson research posts that "Japan will never allow any forces to unilaterally change the status quo in Taiwan."
Third, the East China Sea issue. Takaichi sanae holds a tough nationalist stance, insisting that China's Diaoyu Island is "Japan's inherent territory". Consider China's activities in the East China Sea as a "major threat" and demand tough measures to respond.
She advocates increasing the budget of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, equipped with advanced patrol ships and unmanned aerial vehicles for monitoring and rapid response in the waters around Diaoyu Island. At the same time, we hope to use the Japan-US alliance to confront China, and call on the United States to make a clear commitment to assist in defense when "something happens".
However, as President of the People's Party, the political position appears to have changed. According to the plan, Yogyakarta will hold the autumn festival from 17 to 19 this month. During the past cabinet period, Yogyakarta will visit Yogyakarta every time the anniversary of the end of the war or the two seasons of spring and autumn. Even during the campaign, it is still emphasized that after being elected prime minister, it will continue to attend.
But now there is news from within the Liberal Democratic Party that she is likely to miss the autumn festival. In fact, at the press conference after she was elected president, she changed her mind, saying that she "will make appropriate judgments at the appropriate time" and no longer insisted on continuing to visit the shrine. In addition, Minoru Kihara, the Chief Cabinet Secretary nominated by Takashi Saami, also refused to join the team of Japanese lawmakers who visited China Taiwan.
So what motivated her to change her attitude?
First, it was internal pressure from the ruling coalition. Just after Gao Miyamoto was elected chairman of the Democratic Party, the Communist Party jointly ruling with the Democratic Party said it could break out of cooperation with the Democratic Party. At the same time, the opposition is also actively preparing to launch candidates for prime minister positions.
At present, the self-government party is already a minority in the parliament, and if it loses the support of the public party, it will not be able to win the election, which will turn the self-government party into an opposition party.
Regarding the issue of paying homage to the Yasukuni Shrine, the leader of the Komeito Party, Tetsuo Saito, made a clear statement when he talked with Takashi Hayashi. At present, the security environment around Japan is becoming increasingly severe. Visiting the Yasukuni Shrine should not be allowed to become a diplomatic issue and affect relations with neighboring countries. Takashi Saomiao had to listen to what the Komeito Party said, otherwise it might lead to the other party suspending the cooperative relationship.
Second, diplomatic pressure. US President Trump will travel to South Korea this month to attend the APEC summit and meet with Chinese leaders, and then plans to visit Japan. The White House has stressed that it hopes that there will be no unpleasant things during Trump's attendance at the summit. If takaichi sanae visits the Yasukuni Shrine at this time, it will obviously get into trouble for the United States, and maybe Trump will cancel his visit to Japan.
During the campaign, Gao said that she would maintain relations with South Korea. She also wanted to travel to South Korea to attend the APEC summit and seek to meet with Chinese leaders. To know that visiting Yogyakarta is not an opposition to China, South Korea's reaction is more fierce than China. If at this time to go to visit, it will undoubtedly hinder its journey.
Finally, the influence of China. The current world situation is still tense, especially after Trump took office, and Japan is also one of the victims of the trade war. The correct approach of Japan is to strengthen cooperation with major economies in Asia and Europe to decentralize U.S. risks. In fact, Japan’s industrial chain is very dependent on China, and the trade relations between the two sides are also very close.
The facts have proven that any Japanese prime minister who adheres to the Yakuza temple and confronts China cannot maintain relations with China and does not last long in the position of prime minister.
As with Abe, he was politically very flexible. After Abe took office, he went to the Jews to reassure his supporters, and then did not go to the Jews. In this matter, she probably chose Abe's strategy.
In particular, many policies make some hard speeches before the top, entirely in order to scam support. and after the top often adjust the position, take a more pragmatic attitude to deal with the relationship with surrounding countries.
What's more, China now is no longer the China it was ten years ago. If Takaichi Sanae wants to confront China head-on, it will never end well.
