Israeli media: Mediators expect to reach a ceasefire and release agreement in Gaza on the 9th

Israeli media on October 8, citing Israeli officials and sources said reports that a new round of Gaza ceasefire negotiations in Egypt showed "positive" signs, and the mediator expects to reach a ceasefire agreement on September 9.

An Israeli official told the Israeli Times, “A statement may be issued tomorrow,” saying an Arab state diplomat and another source aware of the progress of the negotiations said the mediator was arranging for an agreement between the Israeli and Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to sign on September 9, including Hamas’ immediate release of surviving detainees in exchange for an Israeli ceasefire, and the implementation of the ceasefire would enable Hamas to collect the remains of the dead detainees and transfer them to Israel.

According to Israel's Channel 12 TV, Israel has begun to draft a proposal on a ceasefire agreement, which will be submitted to the cabinet for voting. Two senior White House officials said they were "very optimistic" about reaching a deal. Qatar's ambassador to a number of countries revealed that Israeli detainees may begin to be released next week.

According to Israeli officials, Israel will begin releasing Palestinian prisoners after Hamas has released all detainees and handed over all bodies found, according to the agreement to be signed.Hamas has provided information about about 20 survivors and is still looking for the remains of some of the dead detainees.

Israel will not release Palestinian militants who were directly involved in the Israeli attack on 7 October 2023, according to the report, but if some Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment are to be released, Israel will take some “flexibility” and Israel has refused to release many of them in a previous ceasefire agreement.

According to an informed source in the Israeli Times, Hamas insisted on Israel’s demand for the release of the 66-year-old leader of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (FATH), Malvan Balguti, saying “Bargouti’s fate remains at the heart of the negotiations.”

Hamas and Israel began a new round of Gaza ceasefire talks on Friday in the Egyptian Red Sea coastal city of Sham Sheik. The talks were conducted in an indirect manner, intermitted by Egypt, Qatar and the United States.
