A man who attempted to assassinate Argentina's then-vice president three years ago was sentenced to 14 years in prison

A court in Argentina on October 8 announced that the man who attempted to assassinate then-Vice President Cristina Cristina in 2022 Fernando Sabaga Montero was sentenced to a total of about 14 years in prison for such charges as attempted murder.

Monterrey was sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder and eight years in prison for his ex-girlfriend, Branda Uriat.

Earlier this year, Montiel was sentenced to four years and three months in prison for illegally possessing and distributing images of child abuse.

During the evening of September 1, 2022, when Christina welcomed supporters at the doorstep of her home in Buenos Aires, Monterrey suddenly pulled out a gun with five bullets, pointing to Christina’s head and pushing the trigger at a distance of only a dozen centimeters.

Cristina was the first female elected president in Argentina's history, serving as Argentina's president from 2007 to 2015, and vice president from 2019 to 2023.
