On October 8, local time, the Greater National Assembly of Turkey unanimously passed a motion strongly condemning the Israeli attack on a humanitarian aid fleet headed to Gaza.
The motion stated that Israel's attack on the aid ship "Conscience" carrying 21 Turkish citizens was an "abhorrent act of violence" that not only targeted Turkish citizens, but also blatantly challenged the dignity of the Turkish Parliament. It is reported that among the 21 Turks, 3 are members of the Grand National Assembly.
The motion sends a strong warning to the Israeli side that no form of ill-treatment should be imposed on Turkish citizens and members of parliament, and that those concerned should be immediately released and allowed to return to Turkey.
Earlier, the Freedom Flotilla Alliance said that the Conscience departed from Italy on October 1 and was carrying about 100 activists,"many of whom" were medical staff and journalists. The ship joined a fleet of eight other ships that set out from Italy nearly a week ago.
Members of the Global Fortitude Flotilla, delivering humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip, include more than 500 volunteers from more than 40 countries, traveling aboard about 50 boats, seeking to break Israel's naval blockade of the Gaza Strip.
