While the U.S. federal government sent the National Guard to the city of Chicago, Illinois, U.S. President Trump said on social media on October 8, that Democratic Chicago mayor Johnson and Illinois governor Pritzke should be put in jail.

Trump posted on social media early on the 8th:"The mayor of Chicago should be put in prison for failing to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials! So is Governor Pritzker!"

According to US media reports on the 7th, the Trump administration has sent the National Guard to Illinois, and the first batch of 200 Texas National Guard members arrived in the Chicago area that day.

Pritzker reposted on social media that Chicago has been the "Best Big City in the United States" for nine consecutive years.
