A sharp drop in automobile production caused Germany's industrial output to fall 4.3% month-on-month in August

The data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics of Germany on October 8 showed that the significant decline in automotive industry production was affected by the adjustment of seasonal and working days, and the industrial output in Germany in August decreased by 4.3%.

Data show that in August, German construction industry output increased by 0.6% month-on-month, while energy industry output fell by 0.5%. Excluding the construction and energy industries, industrial output fell by 5.6% month-on-month that month. Among them, the output of the automobile industry, the largest industrial sector in Germany, plummeted by 18.5% month-on-month, and the output of the machinery and equipment manufacturing industry and the pharmaceutical industry dropped by 6.2% and 10.3% respectively. The German Federal Statistical Office said in a statement that the sharp drop in automobile industry output may be mainly related to factors such as factory summer vacation and production line adjustment.

Following the adjustment of working days, industrial output in Germany fell by 3.9% in August.

The German Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy issued a statement on the 8th, saying that if the impact of the automobile industry is excluded, the decline in industrial output in August will be about halved. In the coming months, the high uncertainty of geopolitics and global trade policy will still put pressure on German industrial output, while weak overseas demand is also reflected in the data of new industrial orders in August. The statement pointed out that overall, the German economy is expected to remain weak in the third quarter of this year.

According to the data released by the German Federal Statistical Office recently, due to the weak demand in automobile and other industries, after seasonal and working day adjustments, new industrial orders in Germany fell by 0.8% month-on-month in August, the fourth consecutive month of decline. Among them, new foreign orders decreased by 4.1% month-on-month.
