EU releases two strategies to speed up the application of artificial intelligence

On October 8, the European Commission released two strategies, "Applied artificial intelligence" and "artificial intelligence in science", to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence in the European industrial and scientific fields.

The "Applied Artificial Intelligence" strategy aims to leverage the transformative potential of artificial intelligence to cover strategic areas such as medical and pharmaceutical, energy, manufacturing, defense and communications. Specific measures include establishing advanced medical screening centers empowered by artificial intelligence and supporting the development of cutting-edge models and agents for manufacturing, environment and pharmaceuticals.

The "AI in Science" strategy positions the EU as a center of scientific innovation driven by AI, the core of which is to use the virtual Institute "European AI Science Resources" to gather and coordinate AI resources to develop AI and apply it to scientific research.

According to data from the European Statistical Office, by 2024, only 13.5% of companies with 10 or more employees in the EU will use artificial intelligence technology in their daily operations.

In a statement, EU Commission President Von der Leyen said: “From robotics to healthcare, energy and automotive, we will promote this ‘artificial intelligence priority’ thinking in all key areas.”
