According to reports, the recent international stage can be described as turbulent. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has lasted for more than three years, and the smoke has not cleared. The world is staring at this tug-of-war. At the United Nations General Assembly, Ukrainian President Zelensky suddenly threw the topic to China and shouted in front of the world: China must force Russia to stop military operations. He also said that Russia would be nothing without China, even accusing China of "keeping silent".
At the same time, the attitude of U.S. President Trump has also changed, from being once considered "pro-Russian" by the outside world, to now openly supporting Ukraine, and even shouting to make Ukraine "restore the original state".
Let's talk about Zelensky first. At the UN General Assembly, he "named" China directly in front of the Chinese delegation, and his tone was very tough. He said that China is a powerful country, Russia is completely dependent on China, and China must force Russia to cease fight. Also add that without China, Russia would be nothing. Obviously, Zelensky is using "China's influence" to talk about things, trying to put pressure on China and let Beijing make a clear statement or even intervene in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
This is not the first time he has said so. In recent months, Zelensky has frequently spoken in various occasions, saying that he hoped China would help stop the conflict, and sometimes criticized China for "no action". His real mind is actually not difficult to guess. Ukraine is in a stall on the battlefield, the Western aid is increasingly variable, and it is also tired inside Europe. Zelensky pushed China to the tip of the wave, both to "seek help" from the Chinese side, and want to borrow the international public opinion to give China the problem, and even to "bite" between China and Russia.
In fact, what he did was a bit like "a dead horse should be used as a living horse". After all, aid from Europe and the United States is no longer as pleasant as in the early days. After Trump returned to the White House, the United States 'attitude towards foreign aid to Uzbekistan has become more repetitive. Zelensky understood that by relying on the West's one-sided approach, Ukraine may not be able to win the final victory. So he tried to pull China off the bench, even if it was just to "persuade peace and promote talks," he could also regain some initiative internationally.
However, China's position has always been clear. The Foreign Ministry spokesman at the first time responded that China has always been clear on the issue of the Ukraine crisis. Since the day the crisis broke out, China has always adhered to objective justice, pushed for persuasion and promotion. Some countries accused, only to shift the contradiction. China has never chosen a side stand, not want to do anything "back the back". persuasion and promotion, is the bottom line of China. For Zelensky's cry, China is neither fierce counterattack nor follow the flow, but with action and consistent attitude to counter the outer noise.
In fact, everyone can understand this calmness. China knows that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is ultimately a matter for both parties. External pressure and "compulsion" often only make the situation worse, and the real solution can only rely on the negotiating table. Moreover, China is not the kind of country in the West that uses sanctions, weapons and economic coercion. China is concerned about respecting sovereignty and adhering to the UN Charter. This style may not be "happy enough", but the most stable.
Let's talk about Trump. His "face change" this time really made the outside world break the glasses. In the past few years, Trump has always been labeled as "pro-Russian". In the early days of his tenure, he said many times that the United States cannot "take advantage" of Ukraine and that NATO and the European Union should pay more. It has even hinted more than once that if Ukraine wants peace, it is best to accept "land for peace." But just during the UN General Assembly, Trump suddenly reversed. He publicly stated that Ukraine has the ability to recover all its territory and that the United States and NATO will continue to provide weapons support. He also said that Russia is stuck in this conflict and that victory in Ukraine is a "perfectly viable option."
This statement immediately sparked a heated debate in the international community. is Trump really a big change in attitude, or again the "art of transaction"?
First, Russia has never been “low headed”. In the past half, Trump and Putin have had many direct or indirect contacts, and even met in Alaska. Trump originally hoped to draw a sentence to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict through private relations. As a result, Putin didn’t let go on the territorial issue and didn’t want to let go. Trump’s “trade card” couldn’t get down, and was dragged away with patience by Putin “to delay the change.”
Second, the U.S., European, and Ukrainian three-party game has also driven Trump’s change. Trump has continuously stressed that the U.S. cannot always “pay”, and that Europe and NATO must take on more responsibility. Now European military spending has risen, Ukraine and the U.S. have signed an agreement on mineral cooperation, and the European aid share to Ukraine has also risen. Trump feels that “the goal has been reached”, of course, can be said in other words, back to the side of Ukraine.
Thirdly, Trump himself is a “colored dragon”. His policies often change with interests and public opinion. Many times, he has not long-term plans in diplomacy, but more value his “negotiation code”. This time at the United Nations General Assembly, Zelensky and Trump himself and his wife have had talks, and the outside world generally believes that these “personal contacts” also influenced Trump’s temporary statements.
Of course, this change of attitude does not necessarily really change the pattern of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Trump’s speech is more about winning international support for himself, giving Ukraine and Europe a blow. But as the outside world comments, the border issue of Ukraine can never be solved by a few words.
In fact, Trump's "180-degree U-turn" has made the peace process more confusing. The front foot is still trying to persuade Ukraine to make concessions, while the back foot is supporting Ukraine to regain lost ground. Such "transactional diplomacy" will only intensify the antagonism between Russia and Ukraine. Russia's attitude remains tough, and Ukraine refuses to budge. Although Europe welcomes the "return" of the United States, it is also full of worries about Trump's changing style.
