US media: US government sends National Guard to Illinois

According to U.S. media reports on October 7, the Trump administration has sent the National Guard to Illinois, and the first 200 Texas National Guard members arrived in the Chicago area of the state on the same day.

Fox News Network quoted the U.S. Department of Defense’s statement as saying that the first 60 days of the National Guard in Illinois would “support federal protection missions and ensure the security of federal functions, personnel and property.”

The New York Times quoted an anonymous U.S. military official as saying that the first 200 people would be deployed on August 8.

Greg Abbott, the Republican governor of Texas, posted on social media on the same day that the Texas National Guard members were "on standby" in Illinois to "ensure the safe implementation of federal laws by the federal government". He had previously taken the initiative to send members of the National Guard for the federal government to dispatch.

Illinois Governor Pritzker reposted on social media that Chicago has been the "Best Big City in the United States" for nine consecutive years, and forwarded a photo of U.S. Defense Secretary Hagerseth doing push-ups:"When Illinois people were harassed by troops sent by Trump, Pete Hagerseth had no time to perform his job and was busy performing push-ups to break the Guinness World Record."

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson reiterated on the 7th that the deployment of National Guard personnel to Chicago was “illegal, unconstitutional, dangerous and wrong.” Johnson signed an executive order on the 6th, calling for the establishment of “Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau ban zone” to prohibit federal agencies from using Chicago City property to fight illegal immigration.

Illinois and Chicago filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration on the 6th, trying to prevent it from deploying the National Guard to Chicago.

Chicago is the largest city in the state of Illinois and the third largest city in the United States.Trump criticized Chicago in early September, calling it the “worst and most dangerous” city in the world, and said he would deploy the National Guard to fight crime in the city.

Earlier this year, Trump sent troops to Los Angeles and Washington, where the National Guard was sent to the Democratic Party’s dominant states and cities, and was heavily criticized by the Democratic Party, saying it had political purposes and was aimed at hitting Democratic jurisdictions, while Trump said the move was aimed at fighting crime andining security.
