"Opening the door to connectivity for Bangladesh"(Joint Construction of the Belt and Road Initiative·First Scene)

"Azulia is an important textile industrial zone in Bangladesh. When the road is opened to traffic, we can quickly transport our products to Dhaka, Chittagong and other places. The transportation cost will drop a lot and our income will also increase." What truck driver Hanxi is eagerly looking forward to is the completion and opening of the Dhaka-Azulia Elevated Expressway (hereinafter referred to as "Da'a Expressway").

The Da-A Expressway project includes the construction of a 24-kilometer-long four-lane elevated highway, the upgrading of 14.3 kilometers of existing roads, and ancillary projects such as ramps and auxiliary roads and bridges. The expressway is designed to have a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour and is contracted by China Machinery Corporation, a subsidiary of China General Technology Group International Co., Ltd. "The project will significantly improve transportation connections in northern Dhaka and its industrial areas, relieve congestion, and benefit approximately 40 million people in Dhaka and 30 surrounding districts. This highway will open a new era of connectivity in Bangladesh." said Abdul Raf, director of the Bridge Bureau of the Ministry of Transport of Bangladesh.

At the project construction site (see photo, photo by our reporter Sun Guangyong), the bridge erecting machine advanced slowly, and the T-beam erection work and the bridge superstructure construction were carried out in an orderly manner. The Da-A Expressway project is located in a river alluvial plain, with complex and changeable geological and geomorphological conditions. The reporter saw that the local land and waterway traffic was busy, and the project not only required to demolish the original old bridge, but also ensured the passage of vehicles and the navigation of ships during the construction period. Bangladesh is full of confidence in the road and bridge construction technology of China companies. "The project is progressing as planned. China companies have world-class technology and equipment in building roads and bridges." Project director Shafiku said. Ma Zhihua, project manager of China National Machinery Corporation, said: "The overall progress of the project is more than half way, laying a good foundation for completion and opening to traffic as scheduled in 2026."

Nearly 4,000 local workers are employed at the project site. The project department actively cultivates local talents in the form of mentoring and mentoring, which not only helps Bangladeshi employees improve their technical level, but also narrows the distance between Chinese and Bangladeshi employees. Moran, a local guy who undertakes translation and mechanical dispatching, said: "I have accumulated a lot of work experience and learned a lot of knowledge here. I hope that through my own efforts, I can help the road be successfully completed, build bridges and pave smooth roads with Chinese friends, and open the door to interconnection for Bangladesh."

“We are committed to participating deeply in the construction of the ‘Belt and Road’ national transportation field, and contribute our strength to building a global connectivity partnership and realizing common development and prosperity,” said the Deputy General Manager of China General Technology Group International Shares Co., Ltd.
