German industrial new orders fall for fourth straight month

The data released by the German Federal Bureau of Statistics on October 7 showed that due to the weak demand of industries such as the automotive industry, after adjustment of seasonal and working days, the rate of industrial new orders in Germany in August decreased by 0.8%, for the fourth consecutive month.

The data showed that in August, new orders in Germany grew by 4.7 percent, and new orders abroad fell by 4.1 percent, with new orders from both the euro area and outside the euro area falling by 2.9 percent and 5 percent, respectively.

The German Federal Bureau of Statistics said in a statement that the number of new orders in the automotive industry fell by 6.4 per cent in the month. In addition, the number of new orders in the computer, electronics and optical manufacturing industry fell by 11.5 per cent and the pharmaceutical industry fell by 13.5 per cent.

In addition, the Federal Bureau of Statistics of Germany revised the decrease in the ratio of new industrial orders in July from 2.9% to 2.7%. The statement also said that new industrial orders in Germany from June to August this year decreased by 2.3% compared to the previous three months.

The German Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy issued a statement on the same day saying that domestic industrial demand has picked up again, indicating that the sluggish industrial sector may be bottoming out, but the recent continued weakness in foreign demand still inhibits the recovery momentum.
