Macron's first prime minister calls for early French presidential elections

According to Reuters, the Financial Times and the French "World" news, on October 7, local time, French President Macron's former core political ally, Edward Philip, the first prime minister in the first term of Macron's presidency, called on President Macron to hold an early presidential election.

According to an interview quoted by local French radio stations by the Financial Times, Edward Philippe said that France currently needs to "get rid of a political crisis that is continuing to harm the country in an orderly and dignified manner." In Edward Philippe's view, advance presidential elections are the way to get out of the crisis. Edward Philip believes that the presidential election originally scheduled for 2027 will take another 18 months, which is "too long."

The budget continues to cause controversy

Several Prime Ministers resign

Recently, the French parliament has continued to have disputes over the draft budget for 2026, and many government prime ministers have failed to pass a vote of confidence or voluntarily resigned. On October 6, French Prime Minister Le Corny submitted his resignation to President Macron, and Macron accepted his resignation. This is less than a month after Le Corny was appointed Prime Minister.

On the afternoon of October 6 local time, French President Macron met again with the resigned Prime Minister Le Corney. Macron asked Le Corney to hold final negotiations with the parties before the evening of October 8 to formulate a national action plan.

Le Corny said on his personal social media: "At the President's request, we will conduct final negotiations with all political forces to maintain national stability and will report the results to the President on the evening of October 8 so that the President can make an important decision on this."

It is reported that Macron has stated his position in this regard that if Lecorny fails in negotiations within 48 hours, Macron himself will "take responsibility."
