Who is helping China block the back door of rare-earth? the answer makes no one think that China has an embargo on the United States
Who is helping China block the back door of rare earths? The answer surprised everyone. After China imposed an embargo on key rare earths on the United States, a huge smuggling network appeared. The smuggling methods of these people were hard to guard against. In just a few months, a large amount of rare earths flowed to the United States, and it was only after many precise interceptions that this loophole was discovered, and it turned out to be an American company that provided the information.

We first understand how important this thing is rare earth, not to say how rare it is, it is not possible to get away from it, small cell phone chips, new energy car batteries, large to the United States F-35 fighter jets, nuclear submarines, all have to use this thing.

China holds more than 70% of the world's rare earth production and 92% of purification technology patents. It is no exaggeration to say that it belongs to the shopkeeper of "industrial gold."

Later, we imposed an embargo on key rare earths on the United States, originally in order to protect our own resources and take the initiative. Unexpectedly, as soon as the ban was issued, the "back door" of smuggling was pried open.

From December 2024 to April 2025, in just over four months, more than 3,800 tons of rare earth have been hidden into the United States, a number that is frightening.

The tactics of those smugglers really play the extreme of "having policies at the top and countermeasures at the bottom", and even when said it, it makes people feel unbelievable. They poured rare earth powder into the stomachs of plastic models, mixed it in tile glue, and even dissolved it in shampoo. When customs declaration, they wrote "clothing props" and "building materials", deceiving the customs for fools.

More cunningly, they also first shipped goods to Thailand and Mexico to change packaging, counterfeit the "non-Chinese origin" label, then transferred to the United States, and lively "washed" rare earth "whitened" nationality.

At the beginning, we really had a headache, these smuggling goods were hidden too hidden, looking at the needles of the sea, looking at our own strategic resources were smuggled to create weapons against us, and in the heart, let's not fire.

But who could think that the last one who helped us break this layer of window paper was American companies, and that they themselves wasted money as "detectives", who proactively sent the evidence to the door.

In the first half of 2025, Shenzhen Customs intercepted 25 tons of rare earth magnetic powder disguised as ceramic tile glue, which is enough to make 500 F-35s; Hong Kong Customs found 150 tons of rare earth mixed in industrial salt; and once directly intercepted 300 tons of disguised rare earth, with a case value of US$80 million.

Behind these precise strikes is all intelligence given by American companies-logistics records, transaction emails, container numbers, and even fragments of procurement contracts from arms giants such as Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, which simply tore the smuggling chain upside down.

This matter sounds too abnormal. Why would American companies help us investigate our own people? In fact, they did not "discover their conscience" at all, they were all forced out.

The United States is not without rare earth mines. The Mountain Pass mine in California has large reserves, but they cannot refine high-purity rare earths. The cost of refining a meal of praseodymium and neodymium oxide is US $58,000, which is more than 60% more expensive than ours.

In the past, we relied on China's low-cost rare earths to make a living. As soon as the ban came out, the price of rare earths in the United States immediately rose by 230%. It is reasonable to say that this is a good opportunity for local American companies. But instead of expanding production, they wanted to cover the goods and raise the price to make quick money, which resulted in loopholes for smuggling.

The smuggling of rare earth, the price of only half the U.S. domestic products, Lockheed Martin these military giants can withstand the temptation, all secretly from the smuggling channels.

This compliant American enterprise is blind, its own high-priced rare earth pile cannot be sold in the warehouse, and the old customers of cooperation for years have gone to buy private goods.

Reduce the price, the cost is there, a drop is a loss; look for the U.S. regulatory authorities, the government does not dare to blame the military-industrial giants, the attitude is very ambiguous.

China is the center of rare earth exports and refining, the fight against smuggling is stronger than the United States, delivering the evidence to the Chinese customs, is equivalent to asking a "strong judge", directly eliminate the source of low-cost smuggling goods, and the high-cost rare earth can naturally sell it.

Moreover, most of these American companies received government subsidies and were supposed to be responsible for rebuilding the local rare earth supply chain. However, once smuggled goods flooded, expanding production became a loss-making business.

Only by eliminating smuggling and stabilizing market prices can they have the motivation to expand production and prove to the government that "subsidies have not been wasted" so that they can continue to receive policy support.

What is even more insidious is that they calculated that the United States cannot live without China's rare earths in the short term. After smuggling is cracked down, the pressure of rare earths shortage will spread to the government level, forcing Washington to take the initiative to talk to China about legal quotas.

Indeed, in July 2025, the U.S. officials came to the door to negotiate, which is equivalent to adding code to the U.S. government’s negotiating table.

To put it bluntly, American companies are not "helping China". They are clearly using our hands to solve their own troubles, clean up low-priced competitors, and keep their rice bowls and profits.

This case also gives us a wake-up, rare earth smuggling is not a simple economic crime, but a big thing about national security. well in our country, the new "mineral resources law" came into force in 2025, smuggling rare earth over 20 tons must be sentenced, the maximum can be sentenced to more than 5 years.

The customs also used blockchain traceability, and issued an "electronic ID card" for each batch of rare earths, which was monitored from mining to export. Equipped with AI identification and infrared spectrometer, it could be detected even if it was well disguised.

In the year 2025, 17 cases of counterfeit smuggling were intercepted, 43 people were arrested, and several multinational smuggling chains were destroyed.

Now look back and help us block the back door of the rare earth, the surface is American companies, the essence is their interest calculation.

But we must understand that relying on others to "assist" is not a long-term solution after all. Only by building our own regulatory defense line stronger and holding the initiative in the rare earth industry chain tighter can we truly hold this precious "industrial gold" and not let strategic resources be lost in vain.
