Breaking-News >> WorldNews Xinhua news agency reporter: If I stop, the Israeli military will shoot at any time
On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) attacked civilian military targets in Israel from the Gaza Strip, and Israel launched a massive military operation in the Gaza Strip. So far, the conflict has lasted for two years. Recently, many Western countries have successively announced their "recognition of the Palestinian State", which is undoubtedly rare good news for Palestinians who have long had no home and no country. After several interrogations, I learned that several cities on the West Bank planned to hold rallies and rallies on September 23 in order to thank the international community for their support and to continue to support Gaza’s compatriots in calling for an end to the war. I decided to go to the scene and observe on the spot to understand the true reaction of the Palestinian people. and a) At noon on the 23rd, I rushed to the central square of Ramallah, a city in the central West Bank. Many people have gathered at the scene, large-scale event posters have been hung high, and the atmosphere has gradually heated up. As the crowd gathered, the police closed all the roads leading to the square early on, and we repeatedly explained that we could enter. In the square, people waved Palestinian flags and shouted slogans, and the scene was lively. Celebration moments are very rare here. After the outbreak of a new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the West Bank has been shrouded in grief and indignation for a long time. I have heard local people talk many times about "it's not suitable for entertainment now." As a result, some people chose to hold weddings in a low-key manner. Many people did not forget to add when mentioning their situation: "Gazans are more difficult." This atmosphere can also be felt in public places: some cinemas have been converted for other purposes, large-scale sports events have not been held for a long time, a few small cultural events still being held have added moments of silence for the victims, and galleries and museums feature Gaza artists 'works are placed in the most conspicuous position. The same was true for the rally site. In the past, people in the West Bank have held many marches in support of Gaza. The scenes are serious and indignant; on the 23rd, there is more joy. At the end of the event, cheerful music was even played, and many people danced along. ( 2 ) Such activities are usually not long-lasting, so we just arrived at the venue and started looking for the right interview. In order to tell the story in full, the interviewer we choose is generally a combination of "officials + people": ask the officials to talk about the whole situation, then ask the people to talk about the meeting. The scene was crowded and noisy, and local and international media gathered. It was necessary to take the initiative to interview specific objects. If you hesitate a little, you may be robbed by other media. After a lot of effort, we interviewed Sabri Sidam, a member of the Central Committee of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (FATAH), who was surrounded by the media at the time. Saddam said enthusiastically, “Recognition Flood opens the door for the Palestinian people to realize their ideals, win freedom and independence,” and called on European nations that have not yet recognized the Palestinian State to “stand in the right position.” Saddam said in particular that he thanked China for its support and assistance to Palestine, saying it was friendly nations including China that pushed the international community forward on the Palestinian issue. Noting that there were international volunteers on the scene, we actively campaigned, and eventually interviewed the former deputy chairperson of the European Parliament, Louisa Morgantini. Morgantini is leading a delegation to visit many places in the West Bank. From a European standpoint, she believes that recognition of the Palestinian state by many countries is an important step, but more needs to be done. I feel the same way about this. List of ruins in Gaza (3) Leaving the celebration site, the Palestinians are still returning to a difficult and dangerous life. The "recognition tide" has ignited new hopes, but many experts said that realities such as the expansion of Israeli Jewish settlements, the construction of the Palestinian-Israeli separation wall, the blockade of the Gaza Strip, and internal Palestinian divisions have made the road to Palestinian statehood more and more difficult. On the evening of the 23rd, a violent attack by Jewish settlers occurred in the village of Muguayir, not far from the daytime gathering place, and a Palestinian died unfortunately. I have interviewed such events many times. In July, I went to the middle of the West Bank to film a Palestinian funeral after an attack by Jewish settlers. The streets were filled with cars, and many people came out of the country and even abroad for solidarity. In April, I also went to the southern West Bank to interview Palestinian director Hamdan Bilal, who just won an Oscar this year. Due to the violent invasion of Jewish settlers, he was unable to cultivate his family's land, and his life was seriously affected. Standing in front of my house in Bilal, I saw an Israeli police car patrolling the Palestinian village. Afraid of being attacked, Bilal bought two surveillance cameras. In the Palestinian region, I get news of attacks and conflicts almost every day: Jewish settlers attack Palestinians, settlements attacked by Palestinians, Israeli military operations on the West Bank... and 4 ) Since the beginning of this year, I have visited refugee camps in the northern West Bank many times to report on Israeli operations. In Jenin, I saw that the entrance to the refugee camp was blocked by high mounds, and the originally smooth road surface turned into muddy mounds. An Israeli vehicle suddenly appeared and before it could be recorded, a military vehicle drove by head-on. In Turkalam, the road around the refugee camp is banned, and we can only run to the opposite hill to observe and see the houses being destroyed and the main roads being dug out. When I passed through an entrance, I asked a Palestinian colleague if we could stand and make a screenshot? In Nablus, Israeli vehicles approached media reporters many times in an attempt to drive them away. Gunshots and explosions sounded from time to time at the scene, and soldiers fired tear gas many times. The scene was filled with smoke and a pungent smell. Ambulances are on standby, ready to rescue the injured. A local reporter reluctantly told me that the media was not safe either-and he showed me several wounds on his body. Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip Behind this “skill” and “habit” lies a long and frequent conflict between Palestinians and Palestinians, which can occur in the streets, in the corner of the streets, in commercial districts and in the daily lives of the Palestinians. In the area of Ramallah Square, where the rally took place on the 23rd, an Israeli army launched an operation a month ago and attacked a currency exchange store. We went to interview afterwards. A vegetable merchant told me that when he was surrounded by the Israeli army, soldiers fired tear bullets and he had nowhere to escape. A normal country must not look like this, and people should not be uneasy in their own land. Many countries recognize that a Palestinian state is worth celebrating, but when will the dream of a Palestinian state be fulfilled, and where will the vicious cycle of conflict and hatred that has plagued the land for decades end?
