On October 6, the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted by consensus the resolution on promoting and protecting economic, social and cultural rights in the context of eliminating inequality submitted by China on behalf of nearly 70 countries including Bolivia, Egypt, Pakistan, and South Africa. At the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and the Programme of Action, China’s proposal aims to bridge differences, consolidate consensus, and focus on action orientation; calls for strengthening multilateralism and international cooperation, special discussion and interactive dialogue in the Human Rights Council, supporting the High Commissioner for Human Rights to strengthen the work in the field of ecological and cultural rights, and fully leveraging the role of the UN Ecological and Cultural Rights Knowledge Center established in accordance with the proposed resolution of the Chinese side, and better providing technical assistance and capacity building to countries in need. Developing countries spoke one after another, saying that the resolution reflected the real needs of the general public and effectively responded to the strong call of developing countries to increase investment in economic, social and cultural rights. All parties, including the European Union, expressed their appreciation for the resolution. After the adoption of the resolution, many countries and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed congratulations to the Permanent Mission of China and appreciated China's leading role in the field of economic, social, cultural and rights.
