White House official: The government's "shutdown" causes the US economy to lose about $15 billion a week

In an interview with the media, Hashit cited the White House internal report that the “shutdown” would reduce U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) by about 0.1 percentage points per week. If it lasts for a month, it would lead to about 43,000 additional unemployment and reduce consumer spending by $30 billion.

The U.S. Budget Office has estimated that Trump’s last government shutdown during his first term caused the U.S. economy a loss of $11 billion, of which about $3 billion was a permanent loss.
