On the occasion of the two-year anniversary of the Israeli conflict, the UN Secretary-General urged all parties to immediately stop hostilities.

On October 6, local time, on the occasion of the two-year anniversary of the outbreak of the Israeli conflict on October 7, 2023,UN Secretary-General Guterres issued a statement commemorating the victims and calling for an immediate end to the ongoing violent conflict.

Guterres said that two years ago, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian armed groups launched a large-scale attack on Israel, killing more than 1,250 Israelis and foreign citizens, and kidnapping more than 250 people and taking them to Gaza, including women, children and the elderly.

Guterres pointed out that some detainees are still imprisoned in "extremely harsh conditions" in Gaza. He met with the families and survivors of detainees and deeply felt their unbearable pain.He once again issued a strong appeal: "Immediately and unconditionally release all detainees and end all people's suffering."

Guterres emphasized,The current humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached "catastrophic levels beyond human understanding" and urged all parties to immediately cease hostilities,Stop allowing civilians to continue to pay the price of conflict in their lives and future.

Guterres said that after two years of trauma, the international community must choose hope.

Guterres emphasized that achieving a permanent ceasefire and establishing a credible political process are key steps to prevent further bloodshed and achieve regional peace, and international law must be respected. The United Nations will remain unswervingly committed to supporting all parties in advancing the peace process.

Guterres concluded that on this day, the world should act to commemorate all victims and work together to a just and lasting peace, so that Israelis, Palestinians and the peoples of the region can coexist peacefully in security, dignity and mutual respect.
