On January 17, 1912, Scott reached the South Pole a month after Amundsen

Today, 113 years ago, on January 17, 1912 (monthly winter month 29), Scotty Amonson arrived in Antarctica a month later.

Scott hurried, hoping to get to Antarctica before Amonson.

On January 17, 1912, Robert Falcon Scott and his companions heroically failed in the race to be the first to reach the Antarctic, and their tragic deeds of being killed on the way home have been recorded in the world's legends.

In retrospect, Scott's plan was too complicated and indeed untenable, and many links might (and later did) go wrong. However, the heroic spirit and tenacious will of Scott, Wilson, Oates, Powers and Evans will never be forgotten. Their bodies were found just 11 miles from a food supply station on February 10. They still rest under a conical pile of stone built on their final resting ground.

Scott explores Antarctica.
