99 years ago today, on January 17th, 1926 (the fourth day of the twelfth lunar month), Zhou Shuiping, the leader of the peasant movement in Jiangyin, died.

Zhou Shuiping was born on June 27, 1894 (the 24th of the fifth lunar month) in Zhoudongzhuang, Gushan, Jiangyin. In 1915, he was admitted to a workshop at Wuxi Provincial Third Normal School. He went to Japan to study in 1917. He returned to China in the summer of 1919 and now teaches in his hometown of Gushan and founded a civilian night school to spread scientific knowledge and new ideas. Later, he taught in Tongshan, Chuansha Normal School, and Zhejiang No. 5 Middle School. In 1924, he joined the Kuomintang during the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party and participated in the reorganization of the Kuomintang's Chuansha County Party Headquarters. In the spring of 1925, he joined the Communist Party of China while teaching at the High School Affiliated to Shanghai University. After returning to his hometown from Shanghai during the summer, he took the lead in opposing the exploitation of farmers by landlords. Later, Zhou Pingping and Sun Xuan, secretary of the Jiangyin Branch of the Communist Party of China, organized the "Star Society" and published the "Star Light" for ten times to publicize the liberation of peasants and the crimes of the local tyrants and evil gentry. In October, he initiated the organization of tenants 'cooperative self-help association to carry out rent reduction and self-help, which won the support of the broad masses of peasants, but was jointly sued by 33 landlords and landlords in Cheng, Xi and Yu counties. On November 18, Zhou Pingping was arrested by Jiangyin County Office. On January 16, 1926, warlord Sun Chuanfang secretly ordered his beheading. In the early morning of the 17th, Zhou Shuiping died heroically. On October 25, Mao Zedong published an article entitled "The Pain of Farmers in Jiangsu and Zhejiang and Their Resistance Movement" in the weekly newspaper "Guide", enthusiastically praising Zhou Shuiping's revolutionary spirit.
