On January 16, 1969, the two Soviets Soviets met in orbit and were connected continuously for four hours. Astronauts can travel from one spacecraft to another through outer space.

The initiative of connecting the Soyuz 4 spacecraft carrying one astronaut and the Soyuz 5 spacecraft carrying three astronauts created what the Soviet Union called "the world's first experimental space station." The two spacecraft began their rendezvous at 6:47 a.m. Beijing time and were connected in less than an hour. There is no internal channel between the two spacecraft, so astronauts have to get out of the spacecraft and into space before they can transfer from one ship to the other.

During an hour¡¯s space walk, they also completed some assembly missions and scientific experiments. Today¡¯s miracle is seen as a step forward towards the goal of building a permanent manned space station.
