Xinhua news agency Georgetown on October 5 (reporter Mengi Yuan Chongqing) by China Iron Construction International Group Limited undertook the construction of the Guyana-Barat-Jaghdio-Demerala River Bridge on October 5 officially opened, Guyana President Ali, Prime Minister Phillips, Vice President Jagiello, Chinese Ambassador Yang Yang Yang and other two countries and representatives of all walks of life participated in the opening ceremony.

In his speech, Ali expressed his gratitude to the China contractor and pointed out that the official opening of the bridge marked the beginning of a series of infrastructure changes in Guyana. Ali called the bridge the "lifeline" of commerce, industry and people's life, saying it will significantly increase transportation capacity and relieve traffic pressure.

In his speech, Yang Yang said that the New Demerara River Bridge is a milestone project for China and Guyana to jointly build the "Belt and Road" with high quality and a powerful witness to the friendship between the two countries. Chinese enterprises actively fulfill their social responsibilities in Guyana, train more than 300 skilled workers for the local area, and cooperate with more than 100 local suppliers, directly or indirectly creating thousands of local jobs.

The New Demerala River Bridge, located in Georgetown, the capital of Guyana, is the largest and most technologically sophisticated transportation infrastructure project in Guyana to date.The bridge is about 2,900 meters long, designed at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour, with a two-way four-way surface, designed for a service life of 100 years.
