Russian Foreign Minister: Seriously concerned about the escalation of US actions in the Caribbean

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Hill made a phone call on October 5 to express serious concern about the escalation of U.S. operations in the Caribbean.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry website, Lavrov said Russia strongly condemned the U.S. armed forces' third attack on a vessel near Venezuela's international waters. The two also spoke in a call about the UN Security Council's recently adopted resolution to turn Haiti's multinational security support force into a crackdown on gang forces, noting that there were attempts to expand the interpretation of the resolution to shift the focus to the so-called "Venezuela's 'drug case' that facilitates organized crime in the region."

Lavrov reiterated in the call that Russia fully supports and supports the position of the leaders and people of the Committee under the current situation. The Russian Foreign Minister agreed to further cooperate closely and coordinate actions in international forums such as the United Nations to ensure respect for the sovereignty of States and non-interference in their internal affairs.

U.S. Defense Secretary Hergezs said on Wednesday that the U.S. military had sinked a “drug-trafficking ship” in the southern Caribbean, near international waters of Venezuela, and that all four people on board were killed. This was the fourth ship that the U.S. military had sinked in the Caribbean since September in the name of “fighting drug trafficking”.
