(Copenhagen/Munich Comprehensive Report) NATO countries continue to face mixed attack threats. Denmark accused Russian warships of repeatedly sailing along collision routes in Danish waters and targeting their cannons at Danish ships. Munich Airport in Germany was again interfered with by mysterious drones and was forced to close.
Arenkiel, director of the Danish Defense Intelligence Agency, said at a press conference on Friday (October 3) that Russian warships have repeatedly sailed along routes that will collide with Danish ships when sailing in the strait connecting the Baltic Sea and the North Sea recently. "Danish Air Force helicopters and naval vessels have also been locked by the tracking radar of Russian warships several times and targeted with weapons."
Arenkiel revealed that a Russian warship has been parked in Danish waters for more than a week. This means that if Danish warships try to intercept the "shadow fleet" that violates Western sanctions and transports oil exports from Russia, Russian warships may intervene to obstruct it.
Intelligence also showed that Russian warships carried sonar and jamming equipment while sailing in the straits around Denmark. Arenkiel said that it is very likely that Russian warships issued interference signals at least once, triggering a widespread Global Positioning System (GPS) failure in Denmark.
Arenkiel accused Russia of exerting pressure on Denmark with fierce military measures that do not cross red lines and trigger conflicts.
In response to media inquiries on Friday, White House Press Secretary Levitt said that the Trump administration takes the incident seriously and that the National Security Council has been in communication with NATO allies.
Munich Airport Disturbed by Drones for Two Nights
Munich Airport in Germany was suspected of being invaded by drones again on Friday night and was forced to suspend operations for the second consecutive night. The airport was originally scheduled to reopen gradually at 5 a.m. on Saturday (4th), but due to the appearance of drones again, operations were delayed until 7 a.m. During the airport closure, a total of 23 flights were diverted and 60 flights were cancelled or delayed, affecting 6500 passengers.
German police told AFP that before 11 a.m. on Friday night, the airport's northern and southern runways simultaneously showed drones, but the drone had flown away before police could confirm.
Munich airport was first interrupted by a drone on Thursday night, causing more than 30 flights to be cancelled, affecting 3,000 passengers.
German Interior Minister Dobrindt said on Friday that this incident was a wake-up call, and the offensive and defensive contest of drones is becoming more and more difficult, and European countries must invest more resources in this regard. He promised to legislate as soon as possible, so that the police could turn to the military more quickly and lay down the drone.
In recent weeks, several airports in Denmark, Norway and Germany have been frequently interfered with mysterious drones, prompting European countries to accelerate their military modernization to address new types of hybrid threats, including deliberately damaging facilities, spreading false information, stealing intelligence and cyber attacks.
The French frigate Lorraine has recently been actively conducting anti-drone combat training and testing new equipment, including single or group shooting against aerial or surface drones, and electronic warfare exercises that simulate drones or missiles.
Sweden also introduced a new law on Friday seeking to expand the cruise capabilities of the Coast Guard.
However, Russia has repeatedly denied having launched hybrid attacks on Europe.Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday rejected allegations that Russia could hit NATO member states as nonsense.
