On the evening of October 4 local time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a video statement confirming that Israel would hold negotiations with Hamas on the first phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and threatened that in the second phase, Israel might use military means to disarm Hamas.
Netanyahu said he had ordered an Israeli delegation led by Israeli strategic affairs minister Delmer to travel to Egypt to finally determine the "technical details" of the release of Israeli detainees, and limited the duration of the negotiations, hoping to announce that all detainees would return home in "the next few days."
Although Hamas issued a statement the day before expressing its willingness to negotiate on the "20-point plan" proposed by US President Trump, the statement did not mention the demilitarization of Gaza and Hamas in the "20-point plan".
