Czech opposition party wins House election Babish is expected to become prime minister again

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The results of the Czech House vote count announced on October 4, former prime minister Andrey Babis led in the opposition party "disappointment citizen action" won with almost 35% of the vote, Babis is expected to become prime minister again.

According to the official vote count, the "Dissatisfied Citizens' Action" party won 80 seats in the House of Representatives, and the "Together" party coalition of members of the ruling coalition won slightly more than 23% of the votes, winning 52 seats. In addition, there are four parties whose votes have crossed the 5% threshold and entered the new House of Representatives.

The Czech House of Representatives has 200 seats. According to Czech law, since the "Dissatisfied Citizen Action" party does not have a majority and cannot govern alone, it will jointly form a cabinet with other political parties or political party alliances.

Babish said at a press conference that night that the "Dissatisfied Citizens Action" party would try to negotiate cabinet formation with the Liberal and Direct Democrats and the "Drivers for Yourself" party,"hoping to form a trustworthy government."

Some European media have said that if the Babiš government succeeds, the new government he leads will adjust the Czech domestic foreign policy, pay more attention to domestic livelihoods, disagree with the EU on policies such as immigration, climate change, and potentially reduce military aid to Ukraine.

Peter Fiala, the current Czech Prime Minister and leader of the "Together" political party coalition, congratulated Babish and said he respected the vote results. At the same time, the Together party coalition will hold internal discussions on the alliance's future after losing the election.

The Czech House of Representatives elections are held every four years, with more than 4,400 candidates nominated by 26 political parties and political party coalitions participating in the race, and allowing Czech citizens abroad to vote by mail for the first time. The vote lasted two days and ended on the afternoon of the 4th, with an official voting rate of 68.9%, up from 21,6,000 votes last year.
