The South African Police Department announced on October 4 that it has sent a police working group to Paris to assist the French police in the investigation of the death of the South African ambassador to France, Emmanuel Mutanteva.

The body was found on the ground floor of a hotel in Paris on September 30 and the French police had preliminarily ruled it to be a suicide crash.The death of the woman has sparked strong reaction in South Africa and has also sparked widespread speculation about the cause of death.

The South African Police Department issued a statement saying that the working group, composed of five experienced police officers, will work closely with France to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the death of Mtetwa and "make every effort to find out the full truth of this tragedy."

Born in January 1967, Mttattwa is a senior member of the ruling South African People's Congress, long served in the South African National Assembly, served as Cabinet Minister from 2008 to 2023, and as South African Ambassador to France from February 2024.
