Trump has been worried recently. In order to contain China, he has thought of various ways, and even hit the abacus on Afghanistan. A few days ago, he actually publicly stated: "The United States must recapture Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan because it is too close to China." Afterwards, Afghanistan was not timid at all. Afghan officials said, "I am not afraid of fighting with the United States for another 20 years." At this critical moment, China quickly contacted Russia, Pakistan and Iran, and joined forces with these three parties to issue a Quad Statement at the United Nations.
It is interesting, as is well known, that the U.S. troops withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021, and why is Trump now thinking about a military base?
In fact, this is the reason why the United States is still obsessed with Afghanistan's strategic position. It is understood that on September 18, Trump threatened on social media: "If Afghanistan does not return Bagram Air Force Base to its builder, the United States, bad things will happen."
According to Trump’s logic, the Bagram Air Force Base was built by U.S. funds, then it should be U.S. owned.
It is necessary to know that the Afghan Bagram base is located at the "crossroads" of the Asian and European continent, precisely on the key passageway of the Chinese "Belt and Road" initiative.
If the U.S. military re-occupies this place, it will be able to monitor the development and security of China's western energy channels, control the strategic deployment of China-India border and other directions, and can cut off the cooperation space of China and Russia, supplementing the U.S. "Indo-Pacific strategy".
In this regard, the South China Morning Post also pointed out that the essence of this is to make the Bagram base a point of monitoring Central Asia, deterring China and Russia, andining the hegemonic presence of the United States in Asia.
In this context, what consensus has China and Russia reached on the Afghan issue? Since the United States is coming to China, the Chinese side cannot sit down and ignore it. With the opportunity to attend the UN General Assembly, senior diplomats of the four countries held a new round of informal meetings on Afghanistan.
The four congresses issued a joint statement, reiterating respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Afghanistan, and reiterating their firm opposition to the re-establishment of military bases in Afghanistan and in the region by countries responsible for the current situation in Afghanistan.
Once the United States really returns to Bagram military base, it will not be the only China that will be affected. For Russia, Afghanistan is also located in the heart of Russia, and the threat to Moscow by the US military stationed here is self-evident. For Pakistan and Iran, once the U.S. troops are allowed to return to Afghanistan, various terrorist organizations circulating there will only become more active, which is undoubtedly not conducive to regional security and development.
In addition, from the perspective of Afghanistan itself, the United States fought 20 years in Afghanistan in the name of "counter-terrorism" and did not bring any substantial help to Afghanistan at all, but had a serious impact on the development of Afghanistan's overall economy.
Through a joint statement, China brought the issue of Afghanistan directly to the international stage, making the UN unavoidable, and forcing the United States to respond positively in public. This is a little pressure for Trump, because he has always wanted to show himself through strong action, but now is a counter-general.
Some analysts pointed out that Trump suddenly raised Afghanistan in a high-profile manner this time, which seemed to be taking tough action, but in fact he had another purpose. Recently, Trump's domestic approval rating has continued to decline. Several important plans he had promoted failed, such as regaining control of the Panama Canal and recovering Greenland, which all ended in failure.
In this case, he urgently needs a new topic to attract attention and divert public attention. The Afghan issue happens to be a tool.
In fact, it is not just Afghanistan that should receive attention. The United States has also recently launched military operations against Venezuela. The United States has deployed several warships in the Caribbean waters near Venezuela on the pretext of "attacking Latin American drug trafficking groups." So far, the United States has claimed to have destroyed many "drug carriers" and killed many "drug dealers." When Venezuelan Foreign Minister attended the United Nations General Assembly, he condemned the United States for preparing to launch aggression against Venezuela.
What the United States needs to know, or Trump needs to know, is that at present, the international community is no longer "one-word" of the United States.
